  From Private to Public

My blog isn’t about one thing in particular. And to be honest, I’m not sure what it’s about, exactly.  What I can say—and this is rather selfish—is that my blog is to help me improve as a writer. My goal, whether it takes months or years, is to create a novel that lasts. I will not attempt to publish something that I feel is not my best work, at the time. I want to publish work I am proud of; work I feel is important; and work that brings enjoyment to anyone who reads. I do, at times, write on education, as I am a teacher. And some of my stories are geared towards children.

Clients and readers of my work, have called my style, humorous, controversial, unique, clever, imaginative, fresh, classic in ways yet contemporary in others.

So, my blog is about connecting with writers, learning from them, receiving feedback, and using that feedback to grow every day.

It was the end of June, 2017, and I stumbled into my small apartment, exhausted yet relieved that school had ended and summer break would begin. Ah, summer break. One of the reasons I became an elementary educator—not the only reason, but a main one (I was in my early 20s, after all). But this summer was different: it was the first summer I would spend as a married individual. Normally, I would spend my summers reading, playing video games, going out—you know, being lazy. This particular summer, though, I had a much more important priority: to provide for my wife. I had no summer job, and no way of bringing in money to pay the necessary bills. Yes, exactly—not good!

Just a month before that summer began, my wife noticed a passion in me, that I did not see in myself. She saw in me, a love for reading, writing, and storytelling. What she did next, would change my life. She gave me a journal (one very special to her), and told me to pursue my dream. So, I did. And that same summer, I ended up ghostwriting for ten different clients, who all gave me incredible feedback, appreciated my writing style, and paid me very well. Thank—goodness!

I continued this trend, until my current pursuit of a Master’s degree took top priority. It was then, that both of my professors questioned why I don’t have a blog; and why I was not sharing my writing. They, along with my wife, encouraged me to begin this blog. It’s now been close to three weeks, and already, I am hooked (too hooked at times. Whoops!).

      1. The main denizens are writers of novels, short stories and poems, but there are articles in there too. Anyone who wants to improve their use of the written word is welcome!
